The Callas,is the child of Lakis & Aris Ionas, who are also editors of Velvet Magazine and owners of Out Of Tune label. The band's first release was the "Trust Lust" single in 2005,which was followed by their debut album "Superman Died Yesterday" in the same year.In 2007,their second album "DIY Or Die" was released, and 2008 saw the release of another single "Lipstick".Then,in 2009,their third self-titled album was released.
Although they 've already had a rich background of releases,it was not untill the release of "Objekt" in 2011 that they started to gain greater attention. In fact, while touring the UK,they fascinated Jim Sclavunos who liked their music so much, that he decided to produce their fifth album, and he also called them to be the support act for Grinderman's gig in Athens. What's more interesting about "Objekt",is that it was released only in vinyl, and each copy had a unique cover made by the Ionas brothers. As you can understand, there weren't two covers alike, and I just uploaded a random cover I found on the internet because I was too bored to take a picture of mine (hoho).
After "Objekt",they released two singles: a split flexi disc with The Victorian English Gentlemens Club, with the song "The Girl And The Gun" as their contribution, and "Peepee" which was self-released and has a story of its own.In 2011,between 12 Sept.-30 Oct.,the Ionas brothers had an exhibition at the Atopos Contemporary Visual Culture in Athens, which had The Callas' music as its soundtrack. The "Peepee" 7",was presented in a unique, embroided-case created by the artists, accompanied by an extensive booklet with original texts. All in all,is a magnificent packaging and a wonderful addition to everyone's collection.
